Happy Sunday!

The U.S. Treasury posted an unexpected $27B surplus in June, boosted by a 13% jump in tariff receipts, as reported by CNBC.

  • Tariffs brought in $27B for the month, up 301% from a year ago.

  • The Treasury noted the June surplus benefited from calendar adjustments, without which the deficit would have been $70B.

Despite the surplus, the fiscal YTD deficit stands at $1.34T, with interest payments on the $36T national debt totaling $84B in June alone.

  • For the full year, interest costs are projected to reach $1.2T, second only to Social Security in federal spending.

Apple’s AirPods are closing in on a major milestone.

  • According to Counterpoint Research, cumulative revenue from AirPods is expected to surpass $100B by 2026.

  • Driving that growth are product diversification, strong demand in emerging markets, and ongoing improvements to the user experience.

While Apple doesn’t break out revenue for individual products, AirPods fall under the Wearables, Home, and Accessories segment, which made up 9% of total revenue over the past year.

The iPhone still reigns supreme, accounting for about 50% of Apple’s overall sales.

The best-performing S&P 500 stock over the last 30 years? Monster Beverage.

  • A $10,000 investment in the energy drink company in 1995 would be worth over $48M today.

Coming in close behind are Nvidia at $44M and Amazon at $29M, rounding out a top three that spans energy drinks, AI chips, and e-commerce.

These gains didn’t happen overnight.

  • They were built through decades of compounding, holding through recessions, market crashes, geopolitical shocks, and relentless competition.

It’s a reminder that long-term investing rewards patience, and often delivers results where you least expect it.

Nvidia has officially made history.

The AI powerhouse just became the first company ever to reach a $4T market cap, edging out both Microsoft and Apple.

  • To put that into perspective, Nvidia is now worth as much as Alphabet and Meta combined.

  • It also equals the combined market cap of Taiwan Semi, Tesla, Netflix, Palantir, ASML, Salesforce, AMD, and Intel.

But as Nvidia’s global influence grows, so does political scrutiny.

According to the Financial Times, Nvidia is planning to launch a new AI chip specifically for the Chinese market as early as September, designed to comply with U.S. export restrictions.

Big Tech continues to do the heavy lifting.

  • The Nasdaq hit another all-time high this week, driven by Nvidia’s surge and a broader rebound in tech.

With Nvidia crossing a $4T market cap, it now accounts for 9.4% of the entire index.

The top 10 holdings in the Nasdaq now make up roughly 53% of its total weight, and their performance have an outsized impact on the entire index.

  • That concentration has raised concerns, prompting the Nasdaq to implement special rebalancing measures in the past.

The social media space made plenty of headlines this week.

X CEO Linda Yaccarino announced she would step down after two years at the company.

The platform has seen declining usage, with daily active users falling 12% YoY in Q2 2025, according to Sensor Tower.

Meanwhile, competition is intensifying.

  • Threads, Meta’s rival to X, saw traffic surge 160% over the same period.

  • Data from Similarweb shows Threads is now approaching X in daily mobile app users.

  • However, X still holds an edge in web presence, user engagement, and loyalty.

Zooming out, both platforms remain small players compared to the broader landscape.

  • Facebook remains the most popular social media platform with 3.07B monthly users, followed by WhatsApp at 3B and YouTube at 2.70B.
